Lowther Castle & Gardens

This is probably our favourite place to visit and it’s only 20 minutes away. Despite being a ruin the castle itself is a striking monument to its incredibly rich and diverse history. You can find out all about it in the museum and then explore the beautiful gardens which are gradually being restored to their former glory. There is also a wonderful children’s play area, estate walks and cycle trails and the courtyard café serves delicious meals, drinks and snacks.
